Sputnik 1957, plus IGY (the first International Geophysical Year) 
1958-59.  The first STEM wave (analog) followed.  Moon race.

About 1980, there was a second STEM wave, but digital.  Kids started 
playing with miniature computers.
Analog RF became "old stuff" for many.
