That is all well and good, Peter, but my point is that they didn’t just play “I Robot” and send 5NN.  You actually had to pay attention and copy what was sent, unlike “modern” robot contests like CQWW.

Must be very difficult to find a transceiver with a real S-meter.
I never had one, they all showed numbers far from the truth.

Made a couple dozen contacts in the FOC QSO party last night (I’m not a
member.)

Two things that I noticed.

They’re a friendly crowd.   They give real signal reports, like 579 and 549.
