It seems to me that for W1VE and many remote enthusiasts, the hobby 
(amateur radio ) has already evolved into a separate species, namely 
semi-professional hybrid communications (SPHC). Yes, they can and will 
co-exist, but to treat them as direct equivalents for contesting and 
award-chasing makes no sense.
