Default zone not supplied (fwd)

Using either V8.52 or V8.53 setup for CQWW SSB in M/S with two computers
networked, I can't get CT to supply the default zone for a call when I
enter a call and hit the space key.  Seems like this function used to work
and the manual indicates that it should work.  BTW, I'm also using 
CQWW.CTY that has been modified with beam heading by CTYHDG.  

Am I doing something really stupid or is there a problem?
