CT networked via Ethernet ???

Hi All,

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but there are some things to bear in mind with

ethernet in an environment of RF. The two that come to mind are:

o The ethernet cables may be resonant on some bands and
hence radiate noise (probaly radiate anyway)

o RF will probably get into the cable (the ethernet cards may not
                like this)

Which is why some have gone over to useing Fibre Optic networks with their
logging applications (either out the Serial port using RS232 fibre links,
or using fibre-based ethernet). For your average station, this is not a
very cheap option. FYI, in the UK, I often see prices of around 100 UK
pounds for a single fibre optic RS232 tx/rx.

Anyone got any real experience of fibre-based CT networks out there?

At ESRAC, the Eindhoven Student Radio Amateur Club PI5EHV-PI4TUE-ex-PI50TUE
we have our PC's networked via Ethernet. I remember some discussions on
this reflector about CT and ethernet. Is it possible in some mysterious
way to network CT via ethernet ? Perhaps it's a good idea to consider this
option for future releases since ethernet is getting more and more popular
as a means to network computers at home. I can only think of pro's using
ehternet instead of RS232 lines.
