WOW, as always this is a controversial subject. I'm pleased the overwhelming
majority of personal responses were questions and positive comments.
The most common problem appears to be semantics, i.e. what/why does DOS mean
2 different things in WIN 95/98 machines. First CT is now and has always
been a DOS program. If you attempt to run CT from inside windows it can,
probably, and will not work properly. Windows cannot talk to CT and
conversely CT cannot talk to windows. There are no DLL's in CT to confuse
other windows programs.
When you initialize look carefully in the upper left corner of the Window.
If it shows the MSDOS symbol followed by the words CT, you're doing it
wrong. It should say MSDOS Prompt-CT. This is the DOS mode that works
without the constraints of Windows.
The other most common question was "WHY". The easy answer is because I can.
A better answer is during DX & 160 contests, from the west, you can easily
be working JA, KH6, VK/ZL, multipliers at their sunset if you're
multi-tasking with GeoClock and are watching the greyline. If you're
multi-tasking on one computer you don't need to be running 2 or 3 other
computers.
If you're having IRQ conflicts only you can resolve them. WIN98 does an
excellent job of IRQ management, much better than WIN95. K1EA did an
excellent job of adding flexibility to the COMTSR's so they can be
configured to be compatible with any, God awful, combination we invent.
To those very few guys with purely negative comments, just because you're
not smart enough to make it work don't condemn the rest who can.
