Bill,

I have had similar problems before with one-way transmission. It was
usually because the RS232 chip (CAT Port) was blown in the 'MP - the
MAX232CWE surface mounted chip on the control board was the culprit.

The computer could send commands to the radio just fine, but the radio could
not talk to the computer.

Check to see if the CAT light is blinking on the MP at normal speed. If it
is, you have eliminated the RS232 port as the problem. If it is blinking
more slowly, then the control board and a different chip is likely involved.

Next I would use a computer port diagnostic program to test each of the
computer ports. I would also hook up another computer to the radio to
eliminate the computer as the source of the problem. Likewise hook up
another MP to the same computer to see if the same problem persists.
Process of elimination goes a long way to diagnosing the ultimate problem.
