[ct-user] CT DOS Users Check your Log times for WPX

MAL:
First, I didn't call you any names, I just didn't agree that your solution was
acceptable for todays applications (or yesterdays) !!!

I don't know why you have a bone to pick with Hans, his opinion is valid.
I wonder just how you are going to "deal with K0HB in my own way". This doesn't
like a very "Ham Like" attitude to me !!!

I don't think that Ed and I had any intent of "solving all the problems in the world and creating world peace" !!! I was just trying to solve my first "Time Aberration" since
I started using CT with Ver 5.07 !!!

All my message was about was suggesting that CT DOS users simply check their "Log
Times" for correctness. We had a change in the dates for the EST/EDT this year just
in case you didn't know !!!

I'm trying to decide whether to send you a jug of Scotch or a tube of Preparation-H
to help get you back on track !!!

73
Bob, K1VU

P.S. I'm going to CC: you on my correspondence with Ed on this subject.

>Hi Ed: (This is off the list.) You might want to back your bus back into the barn. I merely answered a problem with a simple question. I've been a registered CT user since 1987 and the standard 'easy' answer has been set your computer to GMT. It has been the answer at DX Clubs, DX conventions, etc. It has been and always will be the simplest solution.
>At any rate K1VU decided to call me names, a leaky fountain pen, and make a big production. All I did was explain my position more clearly. Then along comes K0HB with his moronic comments. Ed you are not aware of an ongoing unpleasant relationship between K0HB and me that has been going on for years. K1VU said ""There is absolutely no need "" yet K0HB gives me the ration of crap. ""I don't cotton much to "absolutes", MAL,"". I will deal with K0HB in my own way, again. later.
>You and K1VU may think you are solving all the problems in the world and creating world peace but I doubt it. I use my computer for many things other than contesting and DXing, including banking, stocks, etc, and have ""NEVER"" encountered any problem with my computer being on GMT and neither do 99.9% of all hams who have their computer clocks set to GMT.
>The bottom line is I made a simple suggestion that got blown all out of proportion. I don't care what time zone anyone wants their computer set to, I tried to be helpful.

>There are plenty of reasons for anyone to set their computer to whatever time zone they want. The purpose of the list is not to chastise a user, but to help with the problem. You haven't helped solve the problem, you have given a work around that might not suit the user.
>
>Bob, there is nothing special about the DST updates for your computer. What you most likely have, is a variable in one of your configuration files, such as autoexec.bat. There is a variable called TZ which stands for TimeZone. Check the value of the variable. You can do that in a dos prompt by typing SET. If you show a variable TZ, then it is being set in autoexec.bat or whatever batch file you might use to start up CT. If that isn't your problem, then there are other things you might want to look at, but this is most likely the problem.
>
>As far as using CT_TIME, typing CT_TIME in a dos shell will get you the command line prompt. Essentially it asks for the bin file name (make a copy first) and a time offset in minutes. It will then create a new bin file. Make sure you use the correct version for CT10.
