[Fourlanders] Crank-up Antenna Supports on Trailers

Hi Guys,
An idea I've had for quite some time is to use two 20' pieces of square
steel tubing one inside the other. The bottom (outside) tube could be 3"
square (w/ 3/16" wall) and the top (inside) tube can be 2" square (w/ 1/8"
wall).
Outfit each with small blocks of Nylatron (the graphite impregnated Nylon I
use for bushings on the Sidewinder) for the friction points and you have
two tubes that will sleeve properly. Then add a hand cranked winch, some
1/8" stainless wire rope and a couple of pulleys to move the upper tube
with. Mount the thing on a hinge point on a trailer so it tilts up. Guy
cables (ropes?) at the top of the outer tube will keep the thing upright.
A small cage attached to the top of the inner tube will function as a rotor
perch and supply a place to fix bushings or a thrust bearing for the mast.
Clean, prime and paint for rust prevention.
Me thinks one one the front of my trailer and one on the rear would be a
robust combination.
Here is a very good reference
