Once again a great time at Shelby. The weather cooperated nicely, it
rained some on Thursday and Friday nights, but not during the day at the
hamfest. It was the 50th anniversary of the Shelby Hamfest. A good
turn-out too. We had excellent flea market spaces thanks to our friend
Fred Flowers N4GER who was there early with his excellent
travel/operating trailer and secured them. The breeze kept up most of
the time and cooled us off, until Saturday afternoon around 3 when we
did finally start wilting, but we perked right back up for the cookout
starting around 6PM.
21 participants dined on RibEye Steaks, Baked Potatoes, Corn on the cob
and fresh sliced peaches at the annual Shelby VHF Cookout, again hosted
by Mike Wechsler N4OFA/rover and Bob Lear K4SZ. Many thanks to Fred
N4GER and Robin K4IDC for bringing the grills and corn cooker, Fred
K4KAZ and Pat KC4DOO for bringing the paper plates, cups and plastic
ware. Charles K4CSO and Janis KG4ENF brought the peaches and Janis and
Pat peeled them right before dinner. The corn was shucked by Bob K4SZ
and boiled by Robin K4IDC while Jim W4KXY and Fred K4KAZ cooked the
steaks to perfection like they have done for the past several years.
The steaks were again from Charlies Grocery in Dahlonega GA and
delivered by K4SZ. Mike N4OFA brought the 'taters and fixed them up for
grillin.
Besides all these volunteer preparers we had our friends there too at
the tables set up at our flea market spaces:
Dexter W4DEX and son (sorry forgot his name and call) and friend
Pennsylvania John (someday we'll find his call)
Bob W4BCU
Richard K4EVW
David Jones, wife and son
Ivan K4VJM
John KG4LEV
and I hope I didn't miss anyone.
Another great Shelby cookout to cap off a great weekend. We all found
some good bargains, had time to talk about our VHF gear and contests and
swap a few whoppers along the way.
Now that you see what you missed, you won't ignore the call when Mike
and I send out the invitation to next years cook-out!!!!
Dexter was taking pictures and will probably post them on his web page
as he's done every year. Look for them. Thanks Dex.
See you on the bands and at the hamfests.
73 Bob K4SZ and Mike N4OFA
