Agreed, it is a good solvent......however, don't plan on trying to get anything (electrical tape, or other sealers) to stick to the surface after using WD-40 unless you have another good degreaser ready to then remove all the WD-40 residue.

Try just plain old WD40 also. I have found that it is an amazingly good
solvent in addition to all the other stuff it is usually used for.

In my quest to find a "just as effective" replacement product for my trusty
Carbo-Sol (1-1-1 Trichlor) degreaser and adhesive remover I have used for
years (but has now been banned from production after someone in California
determined if you drank a pint of it you might get cancer) I discovered a
product sold at True Value Hardware stores called "M-1" made by Jomaps
Company. It appears to work for most of the heavy stuff I use it for and it
DOES melt certain plastics, which is a true test of a good Chlorinated
cleaner.

In addition, I find that good old PVC pipe Cleaner as sold in Home Depot is
also quite effective with adhesive and sealer removal.

The anti-oxidant grease for aluminum you seek is also available in Home
Depot electrical Dept.

Does anyone have a good, simple and preferably cheap suggestion for
cleaning the gooey adhesive off of a stripped back piece CATV
hardline. This is the stuff with the thick black outer sheath, solid
aluminium outer shield and goo permeated inner foam dielectric.

I have some homebrew compression fittings that were fashioned from
brass plumbing parts silver soldered onto the 2 piece style of N male
connector. Yes, it is 75 ohms. For what I am going to use it for, it
won't matter. Anyhow, that adhesive is going to make a poor connection
unless I can clean it off.

Does anyone have a anti-oxidant recommendation for reducing the bad
affects of the aluminum to brass compression connection?

Thank you,
Brian
