Hello everyone. Bob and several folks (including myself) had a work day up
at Bob's new place this Sunday afternoon. We made a lot of progress. We
got the 6, 2 and 222 antennas up. I also spent some time getting the
trailer ready and the 6 meter station together. The 6 meter station is up
and running minus an amplifier. We spent some time looking at Bob's 6 meter
amplifier. Bob thought it was the RF TR relay but that looked OK. We did
find a couple of standoffs in the plate circuit that were melted (one was
melted/burned very badly) and a door knob capacitor that was cracked/broken.
We are not sure what caused the overheating and damage but Bob's amplifier
will be out of commission for this contest. We will use my amplifier. It
will run only 800 - 900 Watts but that is the best we can do unless someone
else has a 6 meter amplifier they can loan us for the contest. We are also
going to run the FT2000 again instead of the K3 because of technical
difficulties with the K3. We will be having another work day next weekend
to get the other stations together and finish the antenna work. Everyone is
invited. We will probably do it on Sunday since the weather looks best for
that day at the moment but we will wait to carve that into stone later this
week.
