[Fourlanders] Amateur Radio License Plates Now Cost $

If you haven't noticed Ron, I am kind of cheap when it comes to some things.
Sure, $55 isn't going to bankrupt me but remember that if I spend that $55
on that then I don't have $55 to spend on something else (like a tank of gas
to go to Dayton for example). For me it is a question of value received for
money spent. Amateur Radio, university and other such tags all fall into
the category of cool and nice to have but not enough to pay $55 per year.
Even if they had just treated it like a regular tag and charged the usual
$20 (did they increase that?) I would have been OK with that but $55 is too
much. Luckily I have already renewed my tag for 2010 so I am OK until next
year. When the time comes next year to renew it, if they are still charging
the fee, I will turn the tag in and just get a regular tag. I can then take
the money I saved and buy some of those stick on letters to put my call on
my bumper like W4ZST does.

How did this get past our prestigious state ARRL Leadership without a
protest or bulletin or something ??!

I wonder if they did the same thing for Volunteer Firemen plates, etc? If
not, then that's discrimination that my district rep. will be hearing from
me about.

But still Jim......$55 ?? It's still a reasonable price for vanity plate as
compared to some states. Hell, you pay have that just for a Hamvention
ticket that is only good for 3 days !

I just found out today that effective May 12th it now costs to apply for and
renew an amateur radio license plate in Georgia (it was free). The new fees
are $55 to renew and $80 to apply for an amateur radio license plate! That
is more than I am paying in tax for the Explorer! I guess I will not be
renewing my amateur radio license plate next year. Too bad, so sad.
