Thought some of our Atlanta members might be interested in this one. It's a
small hamfest with better than average technical content. I have us (SVHFS)
down for a table, so if anyone is there to help answer questions and help me
at the booth that would be much appreciated. An opportunity to talk about
what SSB/CW/WSJT can do compared to the normal preconceived notions.

Happy New Year!
Please forward as appropriate!
TechFest by Gwinnett Amateur Radio Society
When: January 8, 2011
Where: St Marguretes Church, Lawrenceville, GA
Info: www.GARS.org
TechFest is a family event. We'll have a youth lounge to introduce the very
young to amateur radio, and a Youth Building project put on by the NFARL
(NFARL needs reservations for the 8-18 year old building project)
We start late and don't keep you long. 10:00 till 2:00 for most of us.
Coffee will be served all morning as well as a free burger, dog and chili
lunch.
There will be several tables setup for sharing tall tales while having a cup
of coffee.
What is Military Affiliated Radio (MARS)? We'll have folks to explain.
How did he get all those antennas in the attic? Ralph will show you.
Want to make that smart phone smarter? See ham applications demonstrated on
a smart phone.
This is a great time to introduce friends and relatives to our hobby.
Several local clubs are participating by demonstrating a mode, technique or
tools used in amateur radio.
We'll have a session on DX101 (10:30). Learn how to work those distant
limited access entities. Ask questions of the folks that actually go to
those distant places just to allow us to make a new country contact.
Heard about Linux and Ham Radio? You'll have another chance to hear about
and ask questions. Last year they told us about it. Now we've got
questions!
Been thinking about one of those antenna launchers, spud guns and a wire
antenna? We'll have a display of launchers, sling shots and other antenna
hanging tools. You are invited to bring yours along.
Is D-STAR still a mystery at your shack? Here's another chance to find out
more. If Ed can't answer your questions, you probably don't need the
answer. Put him to the test.
What's WebSDR? Come and find out.
What do those VHF contesters do? Maybe sample WSJT. Nothing to it just ask
at the VHF table.
Ready to move up a class? We'll have a VE session starting about 9:00.
They'll be done by about 10:30.
Got something you need to move to someone else's shack? We'll have a
tailgate in the parking lot starting at 8:00. Dress warm!
We'll have Gene, W4AYK, our section manager at the ARRL table. Find out
what's new with the ARRL or Georgia Section.
