Well, we got the rest of it done. Finished putting up the 432 antennas
and the station tested with them. All OK including computer software,
etc. according to Ron.
We also got the 432 4xRIW-19 array up and going, thanks to Kos, Scott
and Ron mostly. They've got the tracking software and interface going
and tested. It looks good. Kos and Ron stayed until about 5Pm working
on that stuff.
The 2m antennas are also up, but we had some interesting times with the
new cables as we decided to test everything we could with the analyzer
as we went along. Two of the new cables had excessive loss and caused
us to see too high an swr (about 2.5). Ron thinks it was a bad batch of
cable as he has taken the cables home and tested them again with his
'259(?). He is making more cables, but we had enough stuff here to get
everything going anyway.
Interesting that we keep finding so many problems, even with new stuff
and that some of the old stuff was so bad now that we have such
sophisticated analysis instruments.
I am borrowing and will have at the contest this weekend, one of the new
Comet analyzers and a Kuranishi analyzer which we will use for some
further comparisons. If anyone has an MFJ-269, please bring it as we'd
like to use that too for the testing and comparisons.
On Sunday we had myself, Ron, Scott, Tom, Kos and Dusty finishing up all
the stuff needed. So the stations and antennas are all ready to go for
the contest. I will send a separate e-mail about times and food.
Bob
