[Fourlanders] Fwd: [VHFcontesting] UK has Eliminated Multi-Op and single Op Shared Stations for Present Time

Folks,

While this is the UK and not here it is an interesting development.   Could
be that we compete as FourLanders from home.  To do so we need to be
registered as a contest club and our eligibility file needs to be updated
and approved by the President by the Friday prior to the contest.  While I
can find us as a contest club (Four Landers VHF/UHF Group), we do not have
an eligibility list.  I am guessing that is because we never had to contest
as individuals contributing our scores to the club totals

To compile the list we have three choices:

   1. ARRL section
   2. 175 mile radius centered on a six digit grid
   3. 35 mile radius centered ona six digit grid.

I do not know if we have any active members outside of Georgia, if we do
that is the downside of the ARRL section approach.  The advantage of the
circle approach is we could pick up ops in SC, NC, TN and AL.  If we did
this approach we would have to play with the location of the center of the
circle.  We would probably want it to be a little south of Atlanta and then
use the 175 mile circle.  The 35 mile radius is way too small.

To get on the list we just need the call and the six digit grid of everyone
who wants to play.  This goes into an Excel file that gets uploaded to the
ARRL Contest  page ( http://contest-clubs.arrl.org/upload.php ).  An email
is then sent to the President of the club for his approval.  Like I said
all of this needs to be completed by the Friday *before *the contest.  Yes,
there is a story here that I can share if anyone is interested.  It all has
to do with clubs cherry picking for the best score *after* the contest was
over.

So not being an officer, not my call and my suggestion is in these times of
COVID-19 it might be a wise move to do this drill.  If we don't need it
nothing really lost.  Don't know about you all but I have a little time on
my hands for projects.  The reason I know about this is I did this drill
for the North Fulton club.

Although it doesn't directly affect a lot of us on March 19th the RSGB
announced: "As a result of the UK government’s recent advice on social
distancing, it is with regret that the HF Contest Committee (HFCC) and the
VHF Contest Committee (VHFCC) have decided that, with immediate effect and
until the end of June 2020, we will no longer accept multi-operator contest
entries for any RSGB Contest.
Single operator entries from shared stations will also not be accepted,
unless the station is being shared by family members living at the same
postal address. The HFCC has taken the decision that the RSGB HF CW NFD
Contest (June) is cancelled for this year.
We have decided not to ban portable operation by single operators because
of the potential mental health benefits associated with engaging in hobbies
etc. as well as the lack of person-to-person contact in normal single
operator contesting. However, we encourage everyone to follow the
government guidelines regarding social distancing and unnecessary travel.
We will review these rule changes regularly in line with the most recent
government advice to determine if we need to extend or modify the
restrictions. In early June we will decide if the VHF NFD, the IOTA Contest
and SSB NFD can go ahead as planned."

In addition, the UKSMG (United Kingdom Six Meter Group) has also eliminated
the multi-op category for this year's summer Es contest in June.
Is there any word from the ARRL about eliminating entry categories or
cancelling contests?
