Hello Hooper Descendants,
A year or two ago, someone had found a record of a Joe R. Hooper, who had
won a Congressional Medal of Honor and asked if anyone knows his lineage or
if he was related to any of the Hooper lines that we have been following. I
do not recall any answer.
I have recently found out Joe's line from Glenn Moody, through Dixie
Gallaher. Joe's early ancestors had their roots in Haywood/Macon/Jackson
Counties, North Carolina. Joe is the gggg grandson of Absalom Hooper.
Joe won his Congressional Medal of Honor in the Viet Nam War and was the
most highly decorated soldier in the American Army in that War. I am
including 2 websites that detail his unbelievable exploits:
http://mishalov.com/Hooper.html
http://www.angelfire.com/ok/deltaraiders/page7.html
Here is Joe's lineage:
Absalom Hooper (1764-1845)
John Hooper (1783-1871)
William Burke Hooper (1822-1887)
Hillman Perry Hooper (1857-1936)
Walton A. Hooper (1886-1958)
Henry Hooper
Joe R. Hooper
I am proud to say that Joe and I shared the same ggg grandfather, John
Hooper (1783-1871) and are 4th cousins.
Hal Hooper
