OSWEGO, N.Y. (AP) -- Mrs. Iome D. Fitch, a former school teacher and a
homesteader in Iowa, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter near
this Lake Ontario city. She was 108.

Mrs. Fitch was born in Dartford, Wis., on Dec. 18, 1858, the year of the
famous Lincoln-Douglas debates.

She and her husband, who died in 1923, taught school in Wisconsin before
going to Iowa as homesteaders. Later, they moved to Nebraska, where
Fitch served for a time as state auditor.

Mrs. Fitch subsequently moved to Madison, Wis., and came to live with
her daughter, Mrs. Eloise Hooper, at her home here.

The sprightly woman lost her sight in 1961, but said she still enjoyed
fishing and swimming.

Mrs. Fitch leaves 123 direct descendants, including her daughter, a son,
Ezra Fitch of Lincoln, Neb., 25 grandchildren, 82 great-grandchildren
and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be in Green Lake, Wis.
