Naomi & Ron Greetings:

Thank you for your help with this family of Elinder HOOPER and William
McClure.

I have studied the 1850 Union Co & 1860 Towns Co. Census and came up with
the conclusion that Elinder may be daughter of Absalom and Martha Hooper
because...

 Census 1850 Union co. Ga.
898 HOOPER
	Absalom 50 SC *b. abt 1800
	Martha 50 NC *b. abt 1800
	Nirma 22 NC b. abt 1828
	Margaret 16 NC b. abt 1834
	Hannah 14 NC b. abt 1836
	Martha 8 b. abt 1842

Absalom b abt 1800 in Pendleton Dist. SC died Oct 16, 1862 Fodders Creek,
Towns Co., Georgia
+ Martha Kelley aka:MATTIE b. 1800NC d. July 19, 1862 Union Co., Georgia
===============
* This Absalom would be abt 21-25 when Elinder was b.1821-25. They also
live house #898 and William & Nelly (Elinder?) McClure live house #893. They
have daughter Martha (maybe after the above Martha) and also a Sarah (maybe
after the above Absalom's mother Sarah) & a Margaret also.
Nelly could be nickname or middle name for Elinder.

A marriage certificate would be a very good thing to have here. I'll work on
that, keeping in mind Naomi that it isn't in Haywood or Macon Co. Also
William must have been in the Civil War as he would have been abt 40 yrs old
at that time. Pension papers may also help.

Does anyone know if Absalom & Martha left a will or can you tell me anything
more about this couple?

Just about all the 17 different Surnames I am searching go back to an
ancestor b. SC in the late 1700s, which is where Zenobia "Sibu" NELSON was
born in 1817. I have a copy of the original Census from the Natl. Archives
and this is the spelling it looks like to me. But it had not occured to me
until I read your letter Naomi that maybe the Zenobia & Sibu was a name that
was brought over from another part of the world that Census taker was just
not used to. I don't know if they could read or write but I do know that
their son, Elisha b. 1844 could because my mother said she remembers he
loved to read Novels and named her, Verdie, after someone in one of those.
Only other clues I have is a picture of Elisha who is very small in stature
(perhaps Irish, Portuguese, or So. African white) and wife Elizabeth Jane,
dau of Elinder and William McClure looks more Scottish.

I really appreciate any suggestions. ~ Sarah
