Kids Contest List;
Finally getting around to getting our log out to the list. I have been
printing the logs showing up on the list that my daughter is in and she is
enjoying them.
My oldest daughter (Rachel-8) really got going this time.
She is a normally shy person and the last couple times we tried I had
either poor condition or an amp problem and we didn't get out. She didn't
have much enthusiasm. This time I had an antenna problem which I knew
about so I threw up a vertical and ran about 500W. After S&Ping for 3
QSOs she wanted people to come to her. We found a frequency and she
called CQ. She said, Now we wait until they start calling'. I had to
give her the thought that if she is not talking how is anyone knowing she
is there. She got CQing again, but this time without a pause. OK, a
minute later we were going good. I had her get the power meter to a
certain point to keep her voice up. She ran 13 then. I had to force her
to stop to get on with some other duties we had for the day. She wanted
me to stay around, but only needed gentle reminders after a couple. No
problems with her talking to the older gentleman even (which she doesn't
[and shouldn't] in person).
My youngest daughter (Erica-5) is a low communicator in person, but was
getting a little interested in the background. Found a loud station
(K7SJ) while she was there and she said she would talk. She gave her
information and it was received and acknowledged the first time.
Repeating the kids name back to them is a great boost.
We'll see you again, time is too long for a full time effort, but we will
put in some time.
