Bob,
You can take me off the list for the MLDCC; I can't compete with the requirements for submitting logs AND right now ALL of my GEAR in the contest station has quit working the rig, the amp and 2 tuners.....I will get around to checking it all out later....I guess I'm not much of a contester!

I don't think it's time to count chickens and I for one want to thank Bob and Bill for contributing *significant* scores to MLDXCC and hope they consider doing so in the future.
Competition is good. Winning is better :-).

Steve, W1SRd

Speaking for myself, and not MLDXCC, I would be open to taking a look at the rules. I need to take a look at our log submissions, but I'm betting we still would would have a good chance at winning if Bill's score went to REDXA and N6TV's score went to a Bay Area club. Perhaps a reduction in the 175 mile circle? Maybe a handicap format? I don't know, but REDXA came very, very close to beating us a few years ago and I still believe that the club can do so again with good motivation. I saw Stu, K6TU, today at Pacificon and told him to never underestimate REDXA.
A third club in the mix this year was very welcome, as far as I was concerned. I may give a talk to the San Diego club, if my trip to SD coincides with their meeting, to try to pump them up for CQP. I've never been one to enjoy shooting fish in a barrel.
With all of that said, I can't say how much I appreciate the interest in MLDXCC, and of course the points, from those, like Bill and Bob, who are within the 175 mile circle but outside of our core area.

This year my points will go to MLDXCC . . . but hoping next year the CQP
in-state competition can be revised and revamped into a tighter
competition. . more fun for all. It is not at present -- probably why the
So Clubs don't bother.

Comments:

"Beware of pre-fills" An hour before close, an 8-land station frantically
broke in to my 10m QSO -- "LAKE Couny up 5 please" - so went there and
CQ'd. But we had worked FOUR times previously. On the first QSO, he
entered "LANG" instead of "LAKE" and then propagated the error through the
subsequent QSO's, never really listening to what I sent or said.
Fortunately he heard only "Lake" on 10m SSB without knowing the call.
(not casual participant. . he had well over 400 Q's by Sunday afternoon).

Missed SK and wonder how others did w/ NT. I had four Q's with VE8EV,
including a received #82 three minutes from the end and a backup from
VE8GER. Worked 35 countries (incl. US, VE, HI and AK).

The CQP data sheets published by NCCC (Tom, NS6T) revealed a weakness in my
'13 CQP, namely a problem on 20 meters that was confirmed with EZ-NEC
antenna analysis*. For CQP I constructed a rather haphazard 20m beam; the
20m Q's increased from 273 last year to 445 this year, including a 45-min
100Q run on 20SSB (rate of 130/hr) (at 200w).

*Significant null at 30 deg azimuth for all elevation angles from using a
40m DE Zepp on 20m (but 3dB gain to Eu and Carib.).
