Re: the new Fone Fray 30min ssb contest.

Dean, NW2K, a participant in the NS and NS Ladder, consulted us on the
format and rules for this new SSB contest. It was a pleasure to work with
him; Dean drew heavily both on the experience of NS and of CWOps in
devising rules and protocols.

Originally, his proposal was to use the NAS sprint format for Fone Fray;
you all probably know that NS/NSLadder follows a blended NAS/NAQP format.
So I was a little surprised that he didn't adopt that, but instead opted
for an NAQP mimic. Originally his contest would have had the same
relationship to the very sucessful SSB-sprint (N6WM) that NS/NSLadder bears
to the NA Sprint.

It will be interesting to see how the NAQP format works for a weekly
contest. If it's highly successful, it might be useful to switch our
RTTY-NS (NAS protocol) to the NAQP format. The response to the RTTY-NS
(NAS protocol) has been a little less than hoped for, despite an amazingly
diligent effort by Ken, K6MR.
