I brought up this contest at our March meeting when we were discussing
contests, and I was told that this was one of our focus contests.
Perhaps we need to revisit that, and finalize it. I'm sure we have
MLDXCC members who are not NCCC members, and they want their points to
go somewhere. Personally I like seeing our club in print. I think it
helps drive membership and participation.

Based on that discussion in March, and the fact that we have had entries
from MLDXCC in the past, I submitted mine for MLDXCC and advised others
to do the same.

I looked at the last seven years to see where we stood. Prior to 2012 we
didn't have any entries for this contest. Then suddenly in 2013 (15/38)
and 2014 (13/35) we were in the top 40% of the clubs. Still way down in
point totals, but our club was up there. 2015 we finished 33/38. So what
happened in those three years to go from nothing to showing well to
almost nothing again? I wasn't around then so wasn't involved in the
discussions. Looking back through those years I also didn't see any
REDXA or PL259 entries.

In those three years here's how our points would have impacted NCCC:
2015 - No difference, NCCC finished 2nd
2014 - Move NCCC from 4th to 3rd
2013 - Move NCCC from 5th to 3rd

NCCC is always in the top five, and won it in 2010 in a very close race
over Potomac Valley. 2009 and 2015 were close also, all of the other
years it was a runaway win for the competition. So this puts us in a
grey area. NCCC is close enough on occasion to win, so obviously our
points could possibly put them over the top in a close year. If they
were middle of the pack it would be an easy call, but they're not in the
middle.

My decision? This year I'm leaving my points with MLDXCC, and if you've
already submitted them for MLDXCC then I'd ask that you leave them
there. That'll get us on the board. If you haven't submitted yet, feel
free to submit to either one based upon your view on if they'll help
NCCC win the gavel. If you're just a member of MLDXCC then the choice is
easy. We'll bring up the list of contests again at a future meeting to
clarify.
