I think we should all get behind this, and try to get this thing 
overturned. A really poorly thought out law, that effects way more 
things than it should.

Per a CHP source:

"The staid and un-moving interpretation ... is that unless the equipment 
is vehicle OEM, or it is an official vehicle operating in a form of 
governmental business with official markings, the operation of 2-way 
radio equipment is prohibited in a moving vehicle unless it conforms to 
the"dash mounted, one-swipe" form-factor prescribed in the law. No 
exceptions. This includes public utility vehicles, emergency responders 
actively in-motion (i.e. volunteer firefighters in POV's), and many more 
examples."

Editorial:  A plausible first level response from the amateur community 
would be Legislative outreach: The law is over-reaching and open to 
vague local interpretation (the letter of the law vs the above broader 
interpretation.)

Editorial:  A plausible second level response from the amateur community 
would be to get the ARRL legal team engaged.

This affects not only residents but of course an unknown number of 
visiting ham, GMRS, CB tourists with various radios.

I just started the petition "California State House: Qualify or Repeal 
AB 1785 re: Immersive v. Passive Devices" and wanted to see if you could 
help by adding your name.

It is best there be ONE petition vs. fragmented initiatives/messaging.

The goal is to reach 70K (CA ham population) signatures and we need more
