John .... My DX Engineering LP-30 (13-elements on a 36 foot boom - log
periodic) uses the small Philystran for boom supports. Been up three years
without incident. I also used the old "potted end" type of Philystran to
guy the elements of my "late great" 40M yagi before the "ice storm of the
century" destroyed every antenna I owned (except a 220 yagi) back in 1990.

I have the 40-2 except mine is on top of the
tribander. Don't have any RFI complaints with
the 150 watt output I use but then none of my
neighbors have a dish. I assume that your
balan coil is correctly constructed and that you
are using good coax. Long time ago I had TVI
problems when I used foil shield coax.
I have the boom struts on mine and it has
survived two storms without any damage. The
same two storms wrecked K3QK's quad twice.
He is located about 100 yards from my QTH.
I need to replace the boom strut wires on my
TH7 as they are rusting away. I've been thinking
about using Philystran instead of aircraft cable
and wonder if anyone has a comment on using
that.
