[NCC] RTTY Operating

Perhaps someone can explain why every national RTTY contest has the same  
everyone in the world work everyone else in the world format?
 
It is as if every state qso party had everyone in the world work anyone  
else in the world, i.e. JA's working VK's in the Ohio QSO Party.
 
It would not be a big issue, except that 40 meter CW gets trashed  nearly 
every weekend by RTTY contesting in such contests.
 
For a bonus question, explain how a 24 hour contest gets called a "Sprint"? 
 (As in the BARTG RTTY Sprint).
