I am told the program on Morse code described below is scheduled for tonight, 11 pm WUSA-TV Channel 9 news, during the segment called Open Road with Scott Rensberger. The 2-1/2 minute segment is distilled from 5 hours of interview.

Hopefully, it will give Morse code a little positive spin for the general public.

If you can't watch it tonight, it will be available on the WUSA-TV website tomorrow:

Jim, N3JT

PS I may not watch it myself tonight (stage fright!).

Subject: Washington, DC Channel 9 TV program on CW

Somebody referred a WUSA-TV Channel 9 reporter (who produces the Open Road program on WUSA-TV’s Friday 11 pm news) to me to chat about the use of Morse code today. He was fascinated by its continued use in ham radio and wanted to know more. I agreed to be interviewed at my home, which then led to a five-hour visit that included a lot of video and audio recording, including special shots of both the rats nest of cables and the general unkempt state of my shack (which I clean at most twice a year -- and not again even for a world premier news video!). He had multiple cameras and mics, asked a variety of questions (with no advance peeks at the questions), and spent several days editing it all. I have no idea what soundbites he’ll use. Bottom line: I may have fatally embarrassed myself and singlehandedly despoiled CW as a mode, but the program will be aired during the 11 pm WUSA-TV (channel 9) news broadcast this coming Friday. It’s a 2-1/2 minute segment. Hopefully, it successfully extols the viability of CW and its use in emergencies as a default mode, its use among thousands of ham radio people, its growth in the ham community, etc.

73,

Jim, N3JT
