All,
After much back-and-forth, we have decided to cancel the January 19 NCC
meeting. Apologies for the short notice, but this is purely weather -
related, and is based on the 11 pm forecasts from the local weather
stations.
Predictions tomorrow are that the snows will start around noon, and
steadily increase in intensity, especially after 5 pm. Also, winds are
expected to gust up to 35 mph, creating blizzard -- and potential white-out
conditions. If this happens, driving will be difficult and potentially
dangerous, especially for those who have to travel long distances.
Accumulations here are expected to range from 6 to 10". In Youngstown,
they range from 8 to 12". While I have no doubt the TV stations are
gleeful in their willingness to hype this storm for all its worth, I am
also now convinced it's a probability, not just a possibility.
As we get older, we all are more conscious about "safety first" as a
mantra. No more free climbing towers. Hard hats are worn by the ground
crew, etc. I know I'd feel terrible if some NCC member got hurt travelling
to or from a meeting just because we insisted on moving forward despite
Mother Nature. So, the 2019 meeting will be conducted electronically.
As for the open house, Jill and I will be here, and will welcome any NCC
member who still wants to come. But absent those that arrive by 6 pm, we
will not expect anyone, so if you do plan to come and to arrive later than
that, please let me know via email or a call or text at 440-823-0820.
That way, if the forecast is overly hyped and folks still want to come, we
can still have some fun .... but if the forecast is accurate, we'll expect
no one.
73,
Tom, K8AZ
