I really missed being out in the wild, activating multiple counties for the Ohio QSO Party. Instead, I stayed safe at home in Portage this year, on the heels of recovery from surgery in June.
The first couple of hours the low bands seemed soft. Checks and calls on 10 and 15 meters on alternate hours weren't fruitful (no 15 meter Qs). But, 20 meters worked well for lots of far and not so far state multipliers. Eventually, 40 picked up, but 80 meters was the place to be from late afternoon to the end. I got some extra mults on 160 meters (listed below in the 15 meter slot) but was disappointed in the turnout. Perhaps not as many stations have that band or know that it was recently added to the OhQP? I wasted time trying to use a low 80/40 meter dipole on 40 meters that nobody could hear me on and was nearly deaf! That's probably because of the 60 ground radials and nearby vertical wire antennas that really did work well, for a total of 408 Qs. I really like being able to snag new mults on SSB and CW. All in all, I had fun, even here at home!
