[Nodxa] License Plate Renewal FINAL REPORT

A number of you have probably been sitting on the edges of your chairs,
awaiting final developments on my quest to renew my K8MFO vehicle license
plates. The saga began on January 31, when I sent in my check along with
the appropriate form to Columbus.

When nothing happened after a month, I called the appropriate 800 number
and was told that my application was rejected because I had not enclosed a
copy of my unexpired FCC license. When my paper work had not been
returned in a week, I called again, and was told that my application had been
processed after all. Another week passed with nothing received, so the phone
was used once again. The lady at the other end said that the mail must
be slow. Indeed it was, taking 10 days to traverse the 75 miles from
Columbus to Apple Creek.

YES, my renewed registration and sticker arrived today, BUT they are
DIFFERENT from what the rest of you probably have received. I did not
receive the "half page" registration. In fact, I even received a cover letter,
with the seal of the "Great State of Ohio", informing me that my
registration was attached, and that I should not lose it. Then I received TWO
copies of my full page registration, along with a plate sticker that sadly had
no adhesive on it. I think it was appropriate for me to rub it down
with CRAZY GLUE, in light of this total episode. I've had such a great
time acquainting and endearing myself with some of the State's employees.

I do not believe in complaining. In fact I prefer to be part of the
SOLUTION, and NOT the problem. SOOO, after thinking this over, while
cooking ribs, and quality testing some of my homemade wine, I have a proposal.
This is directed to the Executive Secretariat of NODXA.

To streamline the BMV operation within the Great State of Ohio, I propose
that the elected officers of NODXA volunteer their services for several
days in Columbus. A training session could be held on the use of the QRZ
Callsign Database. This program could be installed on all State
computers, including that of the Governor. You all know that license data
would then be available on demand to those in the BMV who process requests
for call letter plates. Perhaps the NODXA Newsletter Editor could
accompany the group, to take pictures and gather information for a series of
articles in the newsletter.

To make a greater impact, the hearty crew of officer volunteers could ride
down to Columbus in the K8YSE Master Grid Machine, ensuring that all of
the rare Ohio grids could be made available to the waiting ham world.

What do you think?
