There is a youtube video about the medical missionary
trip to Haiti that Doug, KD8CAO, and xyl Carrie went on
a few weeks ago.  Doug made about 300 HF contacts with his
FT817 running 5 watts and a dipole.  He also made 49 satellite
contacts.  Haiti is very rare on the satellites.  Doug's primary
mission was to get their radio station back on the air.  It runs
primarily on an inverter and storage batteries, both of which were
replaced along with new wiring. AC power is only on for several
hours each day.
