Dick, if you have had the Orion for a long time and have not changed the 
memory battery, it is recommended you also change out the caps in the power 
distro board. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL doing this as the caps are very small in 
a couple instances. maybe only the big caps should be replaced.  I had 
several error problems with my original Orion until that was done. now all 
works as it should and like new. all the switching and keying work as they 
should. while in the radio I also un-soldered the power connector and 
replaced it with Anderson Powerpoles. I am now not sure I should have done 
that. the AP pulls loose much easier than the locking power connector.

I have an Orion 565 with firmware 3.032x5. When I select mode UCW or LCW
the txcvr immediately goes into tx and transmits a continuous carrier and
locks in this mode until I change back to USB or LSB.

If the rig in in USB or LSB  as soon as I use the tuner the rig locks again.



I seem to recall this started after I inadvertently pressed User1 or User2
when keying in UCW (but I?m not 100% sure)  I have tried a Master Reset
and also reloading the firmware buit this doesn?t fix the problem.  Any
bright ideas out there please?

First thing I would do is unplug everything from the radio except antenna
and power.  Then check if it still behaves like that.

I seem to remember a setting in the keying loop or keyer in the menus that
would get it in that condition. Go through the TX menu and make sure the
settings are right or at their default setting.

Turn the Internal Keyer to "off" in the CW Menu.

There's no way a Keying Loop setting is going to force the rig to transmit,
or am I missing something?

With everything unplugged except a dummy load and power supply, and with
internal keyer "off", the rig still locks in transmit in cw mode?
