Azores Nine Islands Hunt organizers and sponsors are thrilled at the
amount of emails received from all continents congratulating them on a
well implemented project, leading Amateur Radio to new horizons while
drawing on the hunt & gather urge of our great community to get all
aboard a project of this unique nature. No one at 1200 UTC on September
29 expected that more than 9000 hams from all continents would dedicate
all their efforts to make the project a success. All contest organizers
would be pleased with a similar result.
Additionally, the hunt proved that Amateur Radio is a valuable resource
in emergency communications as the nine islands operators demonstrated
their skills in professional station building and effective traffic
handling in need. The emergency exercise was run on 7099 kHz one hour
prior to the official starting bell for the nine islands hunt. The
organizers and the Azores Civil Protection thank the ARRL for supporting
this dimension with their best resources and experience.
A total of 1542 amateurs contacted five or more of the nine islands,
resulting in 11.404 lottery tickets for first round. Additionally, the
twenty-five (25) amateurs who contacted all nine islands fastest will
participate in a second lottery. These twenty-five represent 12
different countries and include three stations from USA.
Totally 551 stations contacted all islands and they will be honored with
a personalized special Award of Merit. Full-color QSL cards featuring
each island will be released through the QSL bureau network while direct
requests can be mailed to Jose Melo, CU2CE.

Note to attendees:
Please connect in good time for the draw. There is software to install before you can use the meeting service, provided by GoToMeeting, and you should allow plenty of time for this. On some PCs, it will be a matter of seconds, but we have seen
PCs spending 15 minutes getting the prerequisite components in place. The draw will not wait for late attendees!
