I've been thinking of getting an Icom IC-Q7A. It is a little low-power
(300 MW) 144/440 mhz shirt-pocket handitalkie that also has AM receive from
78 to 330 MHz, as well as a scanner that operates from 30-1300 MHz, and an
advertised price of under $130. My thought was that this could make a lot
more sense than a piece of equipment that is dedicated only to noise location.
Is there something wrong with this picture? I see that other manufacturers
have units with broadly similar specs and prices. If I got it, for noise
location I would build up a little yagi or Moxon rectangle for directivity.
