a question about triac interference
>>>>>>>>have a 6 amp fan controller light dimmer. I want to use this for transformer control in my new power supply . this unit shows very light sizzling sound on local am radio station on the radio held on top of the light dimmer. It Goes down somewhat when moved away [about 1 foot]. not a big problem, but maybe am radio[1360kc] is not 7mc. I was also told years ago that one may replace the small triac with a more hefty one and run more current. sounds somewhat logical. I am also some what cheap. I will find a 1985 vintage microwave oven and use the 40 amp triac and heat sink unit from one of those rather that buying a new one.[saves $20 or so and is more fun]. I also repair microwave ovens so it is second nature to use microwave parts.
?What does one normally do to kill triac interference? The fan dimmer has a small coil and and some other small parts. could the coil be part of a current noise suppression network?
any help will be most appreciated.
