Of course there is no "ignition" in a diesel.  However,
the noise was definitely "throttle" related.  It went way
down when I lifted my foot off the accelerator pedal.
I figure that when I put the hammer down, the fuel injection
solenoids were turned on for the maximum amount of time
producing maximum RFI.

(The speed control in a diesel is technically not a "throttle,"
which is a variable air valve, but you get the idea).
