[RFI] RFI Digest, Vol 99, Issue 5

hello,
I just put 13 panels and inverters on line. I will gather info as time goes on.
I already have trouble with the system shutting down due to AC phase 
problem....bummer.  This is going to be a heck of a ride I think.  This is only 
the first full day of operation.  Kind of bumpy so far.

We are considering installing some PV to reduce our electric bills.  
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about RFI from SolarWorld 
panels and enphaseenergy.com inverters or solar panels and inverters in 
general?

The fact sheet at the enphaseenergy web site says only that the devices 
are Part 15 Class B compliant.  Class B devices appear to be checked 
only for RFI more than 10 meters from the device.    In addition to the 
inverter itself, there is also some sort of 'Powerline' communication 
over house power lines so as to get the inverters connectivity to the 
internet.  There is a converter device that plugs into a AC outlet and 
into our router.

Hi all,

I found my noise!!  It is 3/4 of a mile away, and very loud there...
Like 40 over S9 in my mobile rigs S meter.  S7 in the same rig at my
home.  Only took about two hours total to track it down.

It is the same noise, I am sure, I drove from what appears to be the
source, the power feed from the overhead power pole pig, to what appears
to be an unoccupied home, all the way back to my home. I will be calling
the power company Monday, so they can investigate further.

The process was as follows:

1.  Grid off the area.
2.  Drive all over, making sure to keep track of sig strength on the
low band rig in the car.  The rig was set to AM to make it simpler to
hear.
3.  When getting close to what we thought was the source, hop out of
the car, using the portable SW radio, DF it looking for null.  That
pointed to the general area of the power feed.  

As I said, next step is to contact the Power Company Monday, and have
them do any more poking around.

I have the enphase microinverters here on a 5kw system that is right in the
middle of the antenna farm.  I have had no intereference issues with it at
all.  I can take a receiver and when the antenna is almost touching the
panels and wiring I can pick up some broadband hash, but that is no worse
than my power line in general.  The plc that it uses is a narrow band 144khz
system for collecting data from the panels, the only problem with it is the
limited range, if the panels are far (>200') from the house it may not work.
