[RFI] VDSL (very-high-bit-rate digital subscriber line)

We do NOT have FIOS or fiber to the house but rather the legacy copper to 
the house is terminated at the DSLAM. The Fiber is the trunk between the 
DSLAM and the Central Office. The DSLAM acts as the MUX for the copper to 
fiber transition.

Is it that they use a better fiber-to-copper converter at the street,
then split the lines to the homes, rather than running fiber to each
house & using a poorer quality converter?

I'm trying to understand the reason for interrupting the fiber prior
to the run from the street to each house.
