Wrong conclusion: in my case at least, I will not spend $10K for any piece of 
ham equipment, even if I could afford it, when my family must come first. I do 
not have unlimited financial resources.

I use, and enjoy, the older gear because it is far less expensive, and I enjoy 
the solutions that the older engineers came up with without computers.

To me it is an important part of our history.

Besides, the receiving operator cannot tell the difference between the signals 
on the air. A push-pull pair of 809s in a TPTG power-oscillator sounds as 
good (or as bad, depending on your viewpoint) as a modern rice-box, and 
the output is usually cleaner.
