Is this a USA company based here or an off shore company based somewhere else ?

In either case, the FCC should step in and nip it in the bud. Otherwise it’s going to be a mess and a lot of wasted resources.

I asked goTenna the following:

How are you allowed by the FCC to operate on any frequencies in the 142-175
MHz (VHF) & 445-480 MHz (UHF) ranges especially with 5 watts and
non-contained antennas (EIRP)? Something is amiss with your description.

I received the following response:

The goTenna Professional will be able to operate on these frequencies as per
the FCC but it is up to the end user to obtain the proper licensing to
utilize the bands as well. Please let me know if you have any other
questions.

I am not a legal expert on these issues but my first question is why was my
linear amplifier disabled for the 10-meter band if it were my responsibility
to have the proper license? I am probably sticking my foot in my mouth but
to think the average cell phone user is going to worry about having the
proper license seems like a low probability situation. Maybe this 'proper
license' is validated prior to purchase and lock-outs applied appropriately?
Yes, I do dream a lot. Glad I prefer to operate 80-meter CW. Ken K5RG
