Well back to an old style water softener.😕 Wonder if I could just throw 
some pellets down the well every week. 😂

Isn't this of the type that was universally banned in the late 90's due 
to being hideous non-compliant RFI generators, as well as just some sort 
of fraudulent gimmick? I recall a period of about two or three years 
when the stuff really hit the fan, but these seem to pop up about every 
five years.
