Not a bad effort with 95% of the Qs S&P. The new antenna (an end-fed
half-wave hung vertically in a very tall tree) worked well on 20 and
15 but was amazing on 40! Most of the Qs on 40 were one call, even in
the face of small pile-ups, which was gratifying. 80-meters was,
however, another story. I have seen other posts saying 160 and 80 were
very noisy but, even at that, the antenna did not work well on 80 and
was impossible to tune on 160. I will look for options focusing on
those two bands.
I was disappointed that there was so little VE activity with only VE2,
VE3, and VE7 worked. The only US mults not worked were ND, NE, DC,
KL7, and KH6. Once again I found 15 meters open but no one home. I am
certain that, had people been watching the band, I could have worked
many more Qs on the band.
All-in-all I'm happy with the result even though I once again ran out
of steam after 6 hours. Congrats to Gerry for a fine showing from
VE4CDX!
We'll be going back home Wednesday and I will do some research on
building the best wire antenna I can find up in the trees in time for
the CW SS in November. I really want to get ONN activated this year!
