Station: ICOM 756Pro, Ameritron AL-1200 (used sparingly, maybe 10% of QSOs),
G5RV at 35' (10M) high, 15m Delta Loop, Hygain AV-640 vertical, Writelog 10.27G
with RITTY plug-in.
My momma always told me, if have nothing nice to say about a contest, then
don't say anything. I guess I set my expections too high, having been away on
business last year. Conditions were lousy, I felt like the tree falling in the
woods when no one was around to hear it. Loud guys CQed in my face.
Highlights: 3 new countries (UK, C9 and KH0). Lots of new RTTY band countries.
Working W0GJ (ND) on 5 bands - thanks to Bill, WB0O for lending him the
station. Working VU2WAP on 10m and 40m - tks, Miku! Having the AL and TX QSO
parties going on to distract me from the conditions -- worked over 10 new
counties in each state!
Lowlights: moving W1JR (NH) from 15 to 20 to 10 on Saturday, then saying, "I'll
work NH on 40/80 later, 73!" It wasn't until the VERY END of the contest that
one called me on 40, and never worked one on 80. Missed easy mults like G and
LZ on 20m, SP on *all* bands. Almost missed CA on 20m! Too many contests at
the same time -- I noted that EA, CQ/RJ WW, AL, TX and QRP contests seemed to
be going on around 7.040 *at the same time* on Saturday. Going to bed early
(10:30 p.m. Friday and 11:30 p.m. Saturday) because I just could NOT stay awake
any more (those who say to sleep extra the week before a contest are right on).
See y'all in the RTTY Round-up in January!
