Another fun contest, but would like to get through just one without a major
problem. I put up a new Force 12 beam several weeks ago and all was working
nicely until early Sunday afternoon when, after 2 or 3 inches of new snow, my
swr on 15 meters spiked up. The IC 706 didn't like that very much and
started smoking. I lost about an hour trying to deal with that problem. I
changed rigs and computers but the software configuration on the 2nd computer
was a little different which made some strange things happen with WF1B v 4.5.
The qso rate was pretty steady but the lack of more multipliers was
disappointing. 80m was definitely down compared to past years. I too missed
ND. I also lost a qso with CN8KD and missed a chance at the 4X and JY
stations when the IC706 bit the dust. The good news is that on Monday my
antenna swr was back to normal. The bad news is that the IC706 is on its way
to the Icom Hospital. There are a lot of good operators on rtty these days
and I very much appreciated everyone who gave me a qso. If I didn't have to
spend so much time practicing law, I'd see everyone a little more often.
