"The most important thing in ham radio contesting is not to win but to take
part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the
struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought
well."
Baron Pierre de Coubertin (if only he had known ham-radio contesting !)

Thanks to the few of you who congratulated me for the score and the potential
new EU-record... But having heard Dirk some 100Q's ahead of me, I knew that I
was going to be a bit short...
And I also knew since ARRL-DX 2004 from FG, that it is not because you beat an
old record that you are necessarily becoming the new recordman !
If I had guessed that the snow would finaly stop sunday around 20z, I would have
saved a couple of hours to run the 4 last hours on 80... but I had less than 2
hours left to reach the fatidic 30...
Probably the bigger mistake I did was to insist the first night - only 147 QSOs
at 0332z when I went to bed...too late... very bad start...
But like says a french proverb: "with a lot of "if" it should be possible to put
Paris in a bottle"
Contesting -at least for me- is becoming like sailing around the world, I also
need accurate meteo forecasts to make my strategy the winning one !

So the only thing I can say: well done Dirk - and congratulations for a
EU-record which may last a couple of years... ! (*)

The other thing I wanted to say is something for Don, and his contest stories...
You may not have noticed it, but this guy has a real talent of writer... how is
it possible to make something so interesting, from a so boring activity, which
just consists in piling-up calls and numbers one after the other...
Don, I suggest that you move to California... Holywood studios really need story
writers like you ! and now that you have teached everybody around the world,
that it is possible to win a TTY-contest with a little-pistol station (and mine
is very little), you've jsut made things harder for yourself (but maybe it is
just because there was not any space left on your walls for more plates !).

Anyway it was fun to compete (like said the pinballs in the 70's)
Hope to see you all in the next one... in CW maybe; not gonna invest much time
in ARRL-DX this year, but need some training on SO2R-CW...so gonna be there
when at least 2 bands are open ! SO2R-TTY is easy and fun... SO2R-Cw is an fine
art which requires some training and practice...

Best regards and CU all AGN SOON

(*)Dirk; just wait a bit before opening the bottle of champagne...someone
sowhere may still keep his score for himself ;-)
