And it looked as though conditions were going to be poor!
OK, 10m wasn't open at all from here, despite frequent checks, but the other
bands seemed to be in good shape.
I wasn't sure how to play this one, as it depended on how the bands shaped
up, but I decided that a good sleep on Friday evening was a must for me. Got
up later than planned on Saturday morning, and didn't make a start until
about 0530UTC.
Spent some time CQ'ing and had some fun watching the pileups on the likes of
HC8N, so didn't waste time trying to work them that soon. Seems to me better
to wait until the second half of the contest when they aren't quite so busy!
Had a few chores to do during the day, but ended up with around 330 in the
log when I called it a day on Saturday. Got up around 0315UTC on Sunday
morning and decided that a target of 600 QSO's would be nice.
By around tea-time I had achieved that, but carried on, and ended up with
700 in the log.
I had one major highlight, and that was working KH6ND on 40m. I was starting
to find 80m hard work, and pressed the button to switch to 40m, and
immediately saw KH6ND CQ on my screen. Had to fine-tune a little, but called
and got in first shout, which was a real pleasure for me! Thanks Mike, as it
is a new band-slot for me.
I also managed to work 4 other new ones on 40m (7X, HI, PJ2 and VP9), and 2
(HB0 and VP9) on 80m, so I am pleased with that. The VP9 was also a nice
one!
Great to see Don AA5AU on as well! Sadly not in my log, but I tried.
Had a nice opening to the caribbean on 15m around 1930UTC yesterday, and was
pleased when PJ2B asked me to try them on 20m for the mult! Thanks guys! It
was a mult for me too.
One low-light (or should that be low-life??) was an SP station who followed
me down the band and kept calling me. He clearly knew I was S&P, but it
meant I had to get a few repeats from some folk.
I also got told WORK B4 a few times, and that was probably due to the fact
that Andy GU4WTN was having a go as well, and I am sure some folk logged him
as GU0SUP anyway.
Ah well, super-partial-check is OK, but you have to watch what you receive!
Also had to chuckle at a W6 who gave OH-OH-06-06 as a report, and the YO7
station calling CQ WPX.
And I almost sent WRECKED when I got asked STATE??? after sending 599 14 14.
Checking back, this is 74 more Q's than 2003, but about 78000 less points!
Anyway, this is what I managed:
