[RTTY] New RTTY set up - comments pse.

Good evening.....

My normal informal RTTY contest set up is a TS-570, a PK-232 and an
old PII PC. 

I have just finished installing a MicroHam USB II unit on an IC-7400
than runs with the DXLab suite on a decent laptop. This seems to
receive AFSK RTTY ok, and the suite reads bands/modes OK.

I'm not familiar with the MMTTY application though. Both MicroHam and
the DXlab Winwarbler software talk about MMTTY, but it seems to be in
respect of FSK. If I'm happy with AFSK [given the normal set up], is
there anything to be gained by using FSK/MMTTY rather than AFSK?

I'm also used to running the normal set up on USB on the TS-570, and
I would probably do the same [or use LSB] on the IC-7400, but the
IC-7400 has a specific RTTY mode that gives an internal decoder, as
well as a specific RTTY filters. I find that in this mode, I cannot
easily distinguish tones audibly due to the filtering. This would
mean depending more on the graphical spectrum displays of the RTTY
software. Winwarbler has a waterfall/spectrum that I think I
understand OK, but it could be bettered [it's not contest designed
software, more for casual use].

If I decide to go more towards RTTY contests, would N1MM or Writelog
provide a suitable visual display for when running the IC-7400 with
its filters?

If anyone uses Icom/N1MM or Icom/Writelog or Icom/Winwarbler, please
let me know your comments on bugs/setup problems/display/etc....
