[RTTY] Macros in the JARTS

Hallo Claude and the group,

I agree that there will be many flavours of any exchange in a contest as we
all have different preferences and choices of software. That won't change.

Some do not like the use of the name in the exchange, but with conditions
the way they were in JARTS, seeing my name saved me from asking for repeats,
or trying to correct my call on many occasions.

The one bit I am beginning NOT to like is the quite common practice such as
this............

CQ TEST GU0SUP GU0SUP CQ
DE XX1XX XX1XX
XX1XX UR 599 54 54 54 GU0SUP
DE ZZ1ZZ ZZ1ZZ
XX1XX UR 599 54 54 54 GU0SUP
UR 599 55 55 55 TU

So, who logged me? This happened many times to me in JARTS this weekend, and
got me quite annoyed on a few occasions. Enough to make me stop CQ'ing and
go get a coffee!
On these occasions, XX1XX did not respond to my request for a repeat, and
ZZ1ZZ did not call again.

I agree with Claude in that when I asked for a repeat, very few stations
sent just their age, and simply sent the same exchange again. This usually
meant they faded out at exactly the same point and I had to ask again.
I used to have a macro (shift-F2) with a long set of the exchange, but I
have now changed that to a macro with just the important bit in ONCE. I can
then send that as many times as is needed. Same with my call if I get
queried about the callsign.

And why oh why do folk send GU0SUP GU0SUP DE XX1XX XX1XX PSE KN BK ?????
I'll agree that there are times when you need to send XX1XX DE GU0SUP GU0SUP
if there are two stations very close in frequency, and you want to ensure
the one you are calling responds to you.

Another "quirk" I had in JARTS was this scenario:
CQ TEST GU0SUP GU0SUP CQ
GU0SUP UR 599 55 55 55 DE XX1XX
XX1XX UR 599 54 54 54 GU0SUP
and then either a TU, or - on a couple of occasions - simply nothing! OK, he
must have seen my previous exchange and known what I was sending, but I
hesitated about logging the contact.
Sometimes their response was buried under a small pile-up and I just don't
know whether they got it or not.

Oh well, it's only a hobby!!

73 all,

Phil GU0SUP
