[RTTY] Good Observations in RTTY RU

I think both you and Tom, W7WHY have valid points, Bill from my angle anyhow. 

I have found that it works best for me putting the station I'm working callsign on
both the front and back. As mentioned, several normally are calling so I have fewer
repeats and fewer incidents of two or three stations thinking I am working them.

I change my macros as I go through the contest. I normally have rough band conditions and being a low profile station, I normally struggle with contacts. If the band is poor, I will also give my report x3, ie; W7WHY 599 001 001 001 W7WHY. I also get fewer repeats. If sending my number one more time gets the job done, it beats sending it 3 or 4 more times by itself. Is this a bad thing?  Some may thing so.

If the band gets much better and I have good propagation, I drop one of the three. I could not agree more, Bill. Trying to figure it out is half the fun. Is there a perfect macro?  I'm still learning, watching, and reading trying to find them. I have learned plenty and feel MY macros are much better than they were a few years ago.  I appreciate these discussions on this reflector from both sides and I appreciate Dick's point of view as everyone elses. 

I will never break any records but I am in this to have fun. I make notes of those stations whom could use a bit of advice but I don't have all the answers myself.  I often times hit the wrong F-key and it seems like no matter how well I mark my keyboard, I will do it every contest. I appreciate the spacing information between callsigns and reports, which makes perfect sense. I plan on doing that myself.  I learn from each and every contest and I appreciate all the contacts and all the suggestions.  There is lots of different software out there and I assume they each play a bit differently.  These macro discussions surface after every major contest but I think anyone new on the reflector would find some value in it, including someone like myself who has been playing around with RTTY for a few years. I think I have seen here already where one new person has benefited from this discussion, or so was written.

Maybe, maybe not. 

I send it that way because often there are two or more stations
calling me and I want to be sure everyone knows which one I am sending
it to. If I send your call only once like this W0RAA 599 CA CA W6WRT
it is likely your call will get buried by other stations who are still
calling me. Sending it twice improves the chances of everybody knowing
who I am working.

There is no one way of doing it which fits all situations. Over a
period of time you will get a feel for what works best, i.e., fewest
requests for a repeat.  Trying to figure it out is half the fun.
