The band was a bit noisy here early last evening but quieted down later.
The problem was the lack of activity. I operated sporadically during the
periods of 2200Z to 0100Z and 0300Z to 0400Z. I did manage to work two new
states and Canada. I now have 25 states and ON. I looked up around 1840
and just above 1810 for Europe. I didn't find any RTTY but did copy some EU
PSK just below 1840. It was good copy here. Also found some PSK around
1807. I used to work PSK but am not currently connected to operate that
mode.

RTTY may not be as good on 160 as on the higher bands but it has generally
been good copy here. Have even worked a QRP station in IA a couple times.
WAS wouldn't appear to be too difficult if the activity was there. Use of
beverage receiving antennas is certainly an advantage when dealing with the
noise. I have been transmitting about 400 watts on an 80 meter 1/4 wave
vertical with a loading coil and 120 radials.

I was disappointed to find that LOTW does not appear to track RTTY contacts
on 160 WAS.

I will be on again this evening around the times stated above. I will look
and call CQ above 1810 and near 1840 on occasion looking for DX. I am
probably too lazy to get up early to look for EU.

Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Carl, WA2ETU
